Property Tax / Rent Rebate checker

Pennsylvania's Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program (form PA-1000) pays $380 to $1,000 a year to eligible older adults, widows and widowers, and people with disabilities - and many renters qualify without realizing it. Answer a few questions for an estimate based on the official 2025 rules.

How the estimate works

The program counts household income with one big break: only half of Social Security benefits (and certain railroad retirement benefits) count. The 2025 income cap is $48,110. The standard rebate follows the official table: $1,000 for income up to $8,550, $770 up to $16,040, $460 up to $19,240, and $380 up to $48,110. Homeowners receive the smaller of the table amount or the property tax they paid; renters count 20% of annual rent as property tax. Supplemental rebates of $190 to $500 apply automatically for lower-income claimants whose property tax is more than 15% of income, and for residents of Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Scranton.

File the real claim

This is an estimate, not a filed claim. The Department of Revenue takes PA-1000 claims online through myPATH, and the deadline is normally June 30 (recent years have been extended to December 31). You must reapply each year.
